Plus500 Licences and Security

Ask any trading expert about what to look for in an online broker and they will, most likely, tell you to start by checking its licences. In the UK, every broker and bank has to be approved by and issued a licence from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

In addition to the FCA, every country and jurisdiction across the globe has its equivalent, and the more licences a broker has, the more reliable it is. Luckily, Plus500 is regulated in several regions across the world.

Plus500 is licensed and regulated by:

A Breakdown of Assets Offered

When picking a broker, the number of assets offered as well as the markets available is an important factor to consider. Some traders prefer brokers with massive selections that allow them to switch markets and try different strategies. Others prefer brokers with more limited selections, such as Plus500.

In total, there are about 2,500 CFDs offered through the Plus500 platform. These CFD cover a range of exciting markets including indices, stocks, forex, and options. Naturally, the selection comprises the most popular financial instruments in the world, including major indices, U.S. corporate stocks, and commodities such as gold and natural gas, to mention a few.

  • icon

Indices – trade close to 30 different index-based CFDs. For example, US-TECH 100, Germany 40, and other major country indices. Or try your luck with more niched indices such as Cannabis Stock Index or the Crypto 10 Index (not available in the UK).

  • icon

Forex Plus500 is one of the leading CFD forex brokers on the European market today. Trade major, minor, and exotic currency pairs as CFDs on the world’s largest financial market.

  • icon

Commodities – with Plus500 you can trade a range of popular commodity futures as CFDs. The range includes the most traded commodity futures in the world, crude oil as well as sugar, platinum, coffee, gold and investing in natural gas.

  • icon

Stocks – today, Plus500 provides an exciting selection of CFDs based on international stocks listed on major exchanges across the world.

  • icon

Options – you can also trade CFDs based on options when using Plus500, which is rare in the industry. In fact, a majority of Plus500’s competitors do not offer options

  • icon

ETFs – with a Plus500 trading account you can also trade a range of Exchange-traded funds as CFDs. The offering is broad and includes ETFs such as Global X Lithium & Battery Tech, USO-Oil Fund, GLD Gold, and many many more.

Outside of the UK, Plus500 also offers cryptocurrency trading but due to current UK regulation, these assets are banned in the country. Nonetheless, Plus500 was the first broker to ever offer a Bitcoin CFD and they remain a popular provider where outside of the UK CFDs on cryptocurrencies can be traded.

Plus500 Fees, Commission, and Spread

When trading with Plus500, you will never be charged commission. Instead, Plus500 has some of the tightest spread in the industry, making it a budget-friendly option. You will never have to pay to make deposits or use the tools provided. Although, there are a couple of non-trading fees charged for certain services, which you can see in the breakdown below.

TypeFee
Overnight FundingYes
Currency Conversion Fee0.7%
Guaranteed Stop OrderSpread applies (more about guaranteed stop order read here)
Inactivity Fee$10 per month
Withdrawls/Deposits $0
  • Overnight fees – similar to all CFD brokers, Plus500 charges a small fee for positions that are kept overnight, ie. after the exchange has closed.
  • Conversion fees – if you deposit in a currency that Plus500 does not support, you will have to pay a currency exchange fee. Therefore, register an account using a currency and payment method that helps you avoid this fee. You can currently pay upwards of 0,7% in currency conversion fees.
  • Stop order – in case you want to place a guaranteed stop-loss order on a position, you will have to pay. This is a standard fee in the industry and well worth the investment to ensure that your losses don’t exceed your budget.
  • Inactivity fee – there is also a £10 per month inactivity fee where an account hasn’t been used for three months. This fee is only charged for as long as there are funds on your account.

If you want an even more detailed description of all the fees, please refer to Plus500’s FAQ. There you can find answers to all your questions regarding trading and non-trading fees. You can also reach out to the Plus500 customer service.

Risk Warning: 80% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Deposit Methods and Supported Currencies

You have several options to choose from in terms of payment options that Plus500 supports. Naturally, as one of the more popular online brokers in Europe, Plus500 offers widely accepted payment options.

  • icon

Visa & Mastercard – use your debit or credit card to fund your account and withdraw profits. Certain credit card companies and banks have restrictions against transactions with online brokers, so please ensure that your card provider supports it.

  • icon

Electronic payment methods – you can also use PayPal or Skrill to handle all your transactions with Plus500. Paypal is one of the biggest online payment providers ever and Skrill is not far behind, meaning this is an option that many UK residents are already used to.

  • icon

Bank transfers – there is also the option of using traditional bank transfers to deposit and withdraw funds from Plus500. Just keep in mind that bank transfers usually take several business days to complete, while the other alternatives are instant. Bank transfers also carry a higher minimum deposit requirement.

*Plus500’s minimum deposit requirement is £100 when using a card or electronic wallet and £500 when using bank transfers.

Trading Platforms

One of Plus500’s main characteristics is that it only provides bespoke trading software, both for desktop and mobile trading. In other words, the platform is completely unique to the broker. Not only that, but Plus500 has developed one of the best CFD platforms in the world, having won several awards and being top-rated in both app stores.

1. Plus500 WebTrader

Plus500 has a WebTrader platform that comes with excellent features to keep you engaged while enjoying your experience. For instance, its interface is clean, has an intuitive design, and is easy to navigate, making it ideal for traders of all experience levels*. The platform also provides a wide range of trading tools, including real-time charts, news feeds, economic calendars, customisable technical indicators, and risk management tools like stop-loss and take-profit orders.

Another element we like about the Plus500 WebTrader platform is its ability to support multiple languages. Traders from 50+ countries globally can enjoy this platform in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and more. On top of that, the WebTrader is optimised for mobile devices, making it easier for you to trade using your smartphone or tablet whenever you step away from your trading station. Plus, your data’s security is guaranteed since it uses SSL encryption when transmitting data between the trader’s computer and the Plus500 servers.

Overall, Plus500’s WebTrader platform gives you access to over 2,000 CFD instruments in 7 markets, including stocks, forex, commodities, indices, and more. Beginners can get started on its demo account, allowing them to practice trading in a risk-free environment before trading with real money. Remember, trading on this platform is commission-free, with tight spreads starting from 0.0 pips. All transactions are also free, and professional CFD traders can enjoy leverage of up to 1:300.

*If you are a beginner you should trade with the demo account and you will be referred to Plus500 Trading Academy and FAQ page.

2. Plus500 Mobile Trading Platform

As mentioned earlier, Plus500 has the highest-ranking trading app on Google Play and the App Store across Europe. This is an impressive feat for any broker, especially for Plus500, which has developed the app in-house. Note that this app is SSL encrypted to protect users’ data while being transmitted between their device and the Plus500 servers. You can also set up two-factor authentication for an added layer of security.

In general, the Plus500 trading app is a mobile responsive version of the web-based platform. Therefore, you get access to the same trading tools and advanced analytic features. Switching from mobile trading to desktop trading and back is easy since you use the same account for every device. Plus, traders can access its demo account via the app to get a feel for how the markets work before trading with real money.

Additionally, the Plus500 mobile trading app is user-friendly with a modern design interface for an exciting trading experience. This means that any trader, whether new or professional, will find it easy to navigate the platform’s features. Like the web version, Plus500 mobile app offers access to over 2,000 CFD instruments, which you can easily search for using the app’s intuitive search function.

3. Plus500 Invest – Newly Launched Platform

For years, Plus500 was a CFD only broker meaning it only offered speculative trading using Contract for Difference. While there is nothing wrong with that, some traders saw it as limiting and many have been hoping for Plus500 to get the proper licenses to start offering investments.

invest in stocks with plus500

Only months ago, this was finally achieved and today, Plus500 provides one of the best CFD platforms in the world as well as a groundbreaking stock investment service.

To start using Plus500 Invest*, you must register an investment account with the broker, even if you already have a trading account. After that, you will gain access to 2,700 different stocks from all over the world that you can invest in long-term.

What’s good about this is that you can invest in stocks using Plus500´s award-winning platform featuring a range of innovative tools to help you perform at your very best.

Better yet, unlike more “traditional” stockbrokers, Plus500 does things a bit differently. For example, there are no fees to use the platform, to withdraw or deposit funds, or any custodial fees. Also, while stock investments with Plus500 are not commission-free, they have some of the lowest commissions we’ve seen in a while.

The only downside that we can think of is that the broker only provides 2,700 stocks while some other online brokers offer 15,000+. So you have to decide whether you’re okay with limiting yourself to a select few stocks or if you rather choose one of the more classic stockbrokers with massive selections.

*Plus500 Invest platform is not available to UK clients.

Plus500 Educational Materials

Plus500 offers a wide range of educational materials in its Trading Academy section to help traders improve their trading skills and knowledge. These educational materials are designed to cater to all traders, from beginners to experienced ones looking to refine their trading strategies.

One of the primary educational resources offered by Plus500 is its extensive library of eBooks. Here you will access information on a wide range of topics related to trading, including what to trade, how to get started trading, and more. Note that these eBooks are well-written, easy to understand, and provide practical tips and advice for traders to improve their trading performance.

Besides eBooks, Plus500 also offers a range of video tutorials covering various trading topics. These video tutorials are short and straight to the point, making them easy to follow and understand. You can learn more about CFD trading, risk management, trading strategies, and more. There is also a comprehensive FAQ section to help you get quick answers to frequently asked questions.

Available Languages

Plus500 is a multi-language trading platform that supports over 30 languages, making it accessible to traders globally. This extensive language support ensures that traders can use the platform in their preferred language, which helps to make trading more accessible and user-friendly.

Some of the languages supported by Plus500 include English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese, to name a few. Traders can easily switch between languages by selecting their preferred language from the language menu on the platform.

Overall, Plus500’s commitment to supporting multiple languages reflects its commitment to providing a global trading platform accessible to traders from all regions. The platform’s multilingual support also ensures that traders can receive support and assistance in their preferred language, which is particularly important for traders new to trading or requiring additional support.

How To Open a Plus500 Account

Registering a Plus500 account is straightforward and since the process is regulated by the FCA, it follows the universal steps as all other online brokers in the UK. With that said, it’s a requirement that you provide accurate personal information and that you verify all that information. Therefore, you cannot provide false information or skip any of the steps in the process.

Also, please note that these rules are in place to protect you as a trader.

Step 1 – Use Our Plus500 Links to Start the Process
Step 2 – Verify Your Identity and Address
Step 3 – Minimum Deposit Requirement

By following one of the links provided on this site, you will be redirected to Plus500’s registration page. Here you’ll be asked to provide personal information such as your full name, address, phone number, and email. You will also create a password for your trading account. This data will have to be verified later on, so ensure that it’s accurate.

Plus500 will also ask you to complete a simple questionnaire about financial markets and leverage trading. They do this to ensure that you are capable of trading in a safe manner and to set limits to your leverage and margin levels.

According to UK financial laws, every new customer has to verify their identity and address. To do this, you have to submit a copy of your ID (passport, driver’s licence, etc.) as proof of identity and a recent utility bill (no older than 3 months) as proof of residence. Plus500 can, at their own discretion, ask you to provide further documentation to prove that you are actually you.

The verification is then handled manually by the broker and, therefore, it can take a couple of hours before it goes into effect.

Once you’ve been verified you will have full access to your trading account but before you can start trading with real money, you have to fund the account. There are several payment options to choose from such as debit/credit, PayPal, and bank transfers.

Plus500 currently has a minimum deposit requirement of £100 for all UK-based traders. However, if you use a bank transfer you’ll be asked to deposit £500.

Please note that you can open a Plus500 demo account without making a deposit. That way you can test the platform and even practice CFD trading for a while before you start trading with real money.

Learn How to Trade with Plus500

Plus500’s platform is really easy to use with a clear and concise interface. However, Plus500 is still a sophisticated online broker developed for advanced traders. Because of this, the broker has dedicated a lot of effort to produce educational material for every skill level.

In the section “Trader’s Guide” you’ll find an archive of excellent video guides explaining every part of trading, from basic Online Trading 101 guides to videos about advanced strategies. There is a Plus500 eBook where the broker – according to themselves – offer:

“Here you can find comprehensive explanations about the instruments we offer, platform features, and a step-by-step Plus500 trading guide, as well as key trading terminology.”

There is also a massive FAQ where you can find answers to all your questions about the broker or the assets you’re trading. We recommend that all our readers spend the time needed to go through Plus500’s educational tools because it will help them become much better traders.

Editor’s Note

Plus500 has won our trust for its reliability and ease of use. The platform allows the common user to quickly and intuitively find the right tools, and the clean design makes it a pleasure to use.

Moreover, its large selection of international stocks (over 2,000) and practical trading tools make it easy to use. Millions of users, including us, make Plus500 their broker of choice.

I have also heard and seen rumours that Plus500 is about to launch an investment platform (Plus500 Invest) that will give Plus500’s customers access to real stock investments and not only CFDs. This is still a work in progress, but we’re excited about it and believe that it will help the broker further establish itself as a customer-favorite in the industry.

As an intermediate trader, I was thrilled to encounter the Plus500 platform. Easy to use trading platform with various advanced technical tools that help you to make the right decision before you open a position. Plus500 offering some of the greatest CFDs selection, but be sure you know how to trade them as PLus500 might not be a good choice for beginners. Trading can be gambling if you have no idea what you are doing, so you better learn deeply how to trade, especially while dealing with CFDs.
